At the end of the Cold War, a Russian diplomat and a US diplomat take a walk together in the woods. The latter is young and optimistic, with great hopes of successful negotiations for nuclear arms reductions. The former, jaded from a lifetime of pretense and stalling, merely wants to make a friend. 20 years later, Blessing's play manages to maintain its relevancy as the world once more steels itself against the threat of missiles and arms buildup. My role was to create four Swiss seasons in our little purple box that would provide the perfect backdrop for these men to meet and recognise the humanity and goodness in each other.
